Upset dog rears its head and shakes up the top 10

There is always one Saturday in every college football season where the dogs come out and bark and shake up the entire BCS. This was not quite that severe but it may be a harbinger of things to come this season. Each week it’s looking like this will be a year where the BCS is comprised of teams with multiple losses. The top biscuit this week was USC, that we felt was susceptible to getting knocked off as they were suffering from ‘Bradford disease’ with Barkely sitting out due to a shoulder injury, but in retrospect it was the multiple turnovers that were at the crux of USC’s 16-13 loss to Washington. Another in the long line of SC defeats to non-ranked Pac-10 teams. The loss sent the Trojans on the fast track out of the top 10 and now they have an Everest to climb if they have any hopes of getting to the NCG. Another biscuit for the dogs was BYU, also mentioned in our upset probables, because of the huge difference in team speed. It was apparent from the beginning that it was substantial as the Noles’ got up quick on the Cougars and never let them back in the game. A huge win for Bowden and a serious blow for BYU who just had to hold serve and they were this year’s UTAH ( a mid-major holding down a BCS spot), but they were penalized severely for their insubordination and sentenced to hard labor in Siberia at number 19. Georgia Tech and Utah were the last morsals for the dogs this week as GT lost to a Miami team that now does not look like so much of an upset, but Utah was shipped out of the top 25 as Oregon got up big then held the Utes off in the 4th quarter for a big home win to help them recover from the opening day debacle against Boise State. Did the penalties fit the crimes or were the upset losers penalized too heavily? Moreover, will the teams that lose late suffer the same fate or does a late season loss cost less/more? Can you REALLY see the BCS keeping Florida out of the BCS if they lose the SEC Championship game? Let us know here and in the individual team rooms or chat rooms.

You can't spell overrated with USC(or OU,ND, or UT either). Congrats on another choke job overrated Pete.
And isn't it sad to see the USC losers attack LSU fans. I guess it's just cause they'd like to have two national championships in the last10 years, unlike Petey's one.

I just want to say, big ups to the Pacific 10 Conference. It seems that they are the only teams that seem to have USC's number year in and year out.

watching this game unfold yesterday, I got the same feeling I had watching the Oregon State game in 2006, the UCLA game in 2006, the Stanford game in 2007, the Oregon game in 2007, and the Oregon State game last year.

i expect to drop to 13 because BYU losing big will drop them big time and the voters skew rankings to teams with past success especially programs like USC who rebound big after a loss. All things being equal I expect USC to finish 3rd in the Pac 10 behind Cal and UW. UW will prove itself in the coming weeks and I think they'll beat ND in South Bend with Locker and Polk playing as well as they have this season. Cal @ UW should be the Pac 10 championship unless Pete gets a big upset in Memorial Stadium, but it will be tough for this offense to make way through a tough Cal defense...I expect a huge game at Memorial.

Teams change year to year... This year, I would say LSU would handle USC, like it or not, and i know the whole "we don't rebuild, we relaod" b.s... but guess what.. You're rebuilding, young QB's, new defense, the Trojans aren't the team they've been in recent years, sure they'll get back there, I'm not trying to down them, but this year... USC v. LSU... I think the Tigers take them down.

This game did not surprise all that much. I watched Washington play LSU in week 1. They put up a very good fight. I knew they were better than their record from last year. Also, i thought SC was a little overrated this year. They have a great defense and a great running game but their young and inexperienced at QB. I look for them to lose 2 to 3 games this season. They will be back next year though as Barkley gets some time under his belt.

doggone it USC , you dont went and did it again...after beating ohio state following it up with a loss...talk about deja vue....and of courese you have dropped 12 spots in the polls too....that's all right though, all you need to do is get your quarterback Barkley back in action and find your offensive prowess too.

Did you guys see the USA Today Poll? It has to be the biggest joke in the world! BYU is still ranked ahead of FSU? Washington still unranked? USC still in the top 10? They should rename the USA Today poll as the "Stubborn and concrete poll who doesn't consider performance and only ranks based on pre-conceived fallacies" This is a joke. It's ridiculous. It makes that poll look really dumb.

I can explain the sentiment of the double standard LSU fans are talking about. When UW played you well, everyone thought it was a one-hit wonder team that had nothing to lose and played you through 4 quarters. Seeing as how they were on a 14 game losing streak they didn't have a lot of confidence and taking a top 10 LSU to the 4th quarter had everyone thinking LSU was overrated.

However, when they beat USC they proved they can compete with elite programs week in and week out. Does that mean USC is a top ten team this year, not necessarily, but it means that each of these programs has terrific coaching and a tremendous amount of talent and this UW team was able to overcome it each time. Compete once, the other team is overrated....compete twice, they are a good team....compete all season, they are a Pac 10 contender.

et's think back a few weeks when LSU took a trip to Husky Stadium
* lsu was the overwhelming favorite to win that one by a hundred
* at the end of the day Jake Locker had mounted nearly 550 yards of Total Offense
* Les Miles Quoted " We were lucky to get outta here with a win"
* Chris Low reported similar stats and Quotes immediately after the game

let's not get ahead of our selves now.

Nope, never said it, end of story. Husky stadium is a tough place to play. LSU did good to get out of there with a win.

Just quit trying to compare a winless team minus their superstar and a hapless coach against a team with a much better coach and their superstar healthy.

I'm not a USC fan I've actually been to some games there and they have lots of terrible fans you'd never want to meet...that being said...to claim USC "sucks" is just plain stupid...they play all 9 PAC 10 teams every year and it doesn't mean they "suck" cause they lose ONE game and always win OOC and their Bowl Game...it's just plain stupid to claim they "suck"

useless s.c. can still play a sec team .we send about 10 teams a year to bowls .maybe they can play Miss St in the sun bowl. if they can win enough games.... or Vandy how about Auburn.... maybe S.C.........

LISTEN UP ALL PAC 10 Fans

if im not mistaken, the SEC leads the Pac 10 since 2001, 7-5

USC has never beaten an SEC team in a bowl game out side of pasadena

USC has a lossing record agianst the historical top 6 in the SEC

I love when people who just started watching college football, or just started watching football in general, or just root root and don't know much, come and comment...

I've seen this from my Alma Mater before...we lose some conference game, all the USC Haters come out talking about "good luck in the holiday bowl", we don't lose any more games, THEIR team ends up losing a game too, and at the end of the season we have the same ONE loss like their team or the same TWO losses as their team...and Herbstreit, Corso and the rest of the CFB gang is saying the same thing: We need a playoff, cause I'd put this USC team up against anyone in the country...

People, please be smart about your statements. When was the last time USC lost a BIG game? When was the last time we lost to someone that everyone thought could beat us? And other than these Pac-10 games, when was the last time the team YOU root for beat us? Yeah, I thought so...

The secOND rate conference has no relevance at all because they stopped scheduling us after our 4-0 record against Auburn and Arkansas respectively, because they said "f*** that, I don't want that early season L"...

We lost this game because we were outcoached. Carroll did not call a good defensive gameplan, nor did he allow for good offensive plays to be called. Bates didn't call a good game either. That mixed with turnovers cost us the game. It always costs us one of these games.

See ya'll in Jan...as usual...cause you won't schedule us earlier!

Damn the BCS said...

I'm not saying every team in the SEC is better than every team in the Pac-10...not at all. I'm just saying that Bama, Florida, UGA, LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Vandy are better than the MAJORITY of the Pac-10. Oregon's good most years, and they play a decent schedule most years. Same thing for Cal. USC's good...but overrated, and they play cupcakes a good portion of the year. Of the 10 teams in your league, 4 of them have losing records on an almost yearly basis...Stanford, UCLA, UW and Wazzu....and Arizona had a 10 year span without a bowl game appearance, so I'm guessing they weren't very good either. The league is overhyped, IMO...but a couple schools play really good football, and they show up against all opponents. The Pac-10 has a good record agains the SEC this decade...that's great for y'all...but it doesn't really matter when you aren't playing UF, haven't played Bama in 30+ years, you aren't coming to Shreveport to play LSU, and you've only played against UGA once recently. Numbers don't tell the whole story.

LSU guy, you are mistaken you babbling buffoon....the PAC 10 has a winning record vs EVERY conference during the BCS era...Thats why the SEC hates the PAC 10 so much...tired of getting used and abused. Keep beating up on CHokeLahoma and claiming you deserve the Voted on Titles while the PAC 10 keeps drubbing you head to head

LSU Tiger said...

If SEC fan REALLY wanted to PROVE they could beat USC...they wouldn't root against them EVERY week when they're playing the 9 other PAC 10 teams

Are SEC fans really gonna try to tell us they love the other 9 PAC 10 teams? Or will they man up and admit theyd rather play 6 straight BCS loss ChokeLahoma

the HATE for the SEC...PLS DNT THROW ROCKS AT THE THRONE!!

BIG 10 take the cake on that one...last year NW and MINN 1st 4 games were against 4 teams we never heard of then they won 3 games IN conference and went Bowling...But that's why the SLOW 10 has only won 6 of their last 22 Bowl Games LMFAO
